Jamhuri ya Kenya

The Minister for Planning and National Development, the Honourable Henry Onyacha Obwocha has been prominent in developing strategies to achieve the MDGs since 2004. By identifying the interventions and investments needed to meet the MDGs by 2015 and the resources needed to support the intensification of interventions through to 2015 the objective has been to direct Kenya’ economic development by way of MDG-based, long-term planning. The long-term plan would be the reasons underlying policy and provide a reference for monitoring and evaluation. A financial strategy would also arise out of the long-term plan.

The increased application of resources, the harmonisation of components of the long-term plan and the partnerships that need strengthening in support of the plan make KMAfrica an important resource.

Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA)

The next three years of the Development Bank of Southern Africa’s (DBSA) corporate strategy will see an investment of R8 billion in South Africa and the deployment of 150 experts to develop and implement infrastructure projects. The growth will be on the sectors and projects identified in the Accelerated and Shared-Growth Initiative for South Africa, the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan and the NEPAD Short-Term, Action Plan for infrastructure.

Over the ten-year period leading to 2014, the Bank plans to invest a total of R45 billion, with R30 billion being in South Africa and R15 billion beyond the borders in southern Africa.
